there is rancor. It is then said, “Wait concerning these two until they make peace.” This shows that a person must take the initiative to remove rancor, enmity, and hatred between himself and his brothers. Even if he feels some reluctance or heaviness when pursuing reconciliation, he should persevere and seek reward, for the outcome is praiseworthy. When someone reflects on the goodness, reward, and recompense bound up with the act, it becomes easy for him; likewise, when he considers the threat attached to abandoning it, acting upon it becomes easy.
If a person cannot go directly to the other party and say, “We need to reconcile and eliminate the hostility and hatred between us,” he may appoint a trustworthy intermediary acceptable to both sides. That mediator can approach him and say, “I sense that there is such-and-such between you and so-and-so; were you to reconcile and remove the hostility between you, it would be excellent.” Allah is the One who grants success.
