The author then substantiates this point with the ḥadīth of ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in which the Prophet ﷺ said, “Do not revile the dead.” A command of prohibition by default signals that the act is forbidden, so we must refrain from abusing the deceased. He further explained: “for they have already reached the consequences of what they sent ahead.”
Your cursing them brings no benefit, because once they passed from the realm of action to the realm of recompense they arrived at what they had prepared for themselves. Everyone who dies has entered the Abode of Retribution; his personal resurrection has begun, his deeds have ceased, and he retains no share in any further action whatsoever—except for what the Sunnah has exempted. The Prophet ﷺ said: “When a human being dies, his works come to an end except for three: a continuous charity, knowledge from which people benefit, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
This demonstrates that a person ought to guard his tongue against anything that yields no benefit, for such restraint is the way of the God-fearing. As Allah describes them: “The servants of the Most Merciful, when they pass by frivolity, pass by with dignity.” As for falsehood, they never bear witness to it at all, and they speak only the truth. Allah alone grants success.
