– Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever is safeguarded by Allah from the evil of what lies between his jaws and the evil of what lies between his legs will enter Paradise.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said: “A ḥasan (good) hadith.”
– ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is the way to salvation?” He replied, “Hold your tongue, let your home contain you, and weep over your sin.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said: “A ḥasan (good) hadith.”
– Abu Saʿid al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “When the son of Adam rises in the morning, all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue and say, ‘Fear Allah with regard to us, for we are only dependent upon you: if you are upright, we are upright; and if you go astray, we go astray.’” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi.
(The expression takaffaru al-lisān here means that the limbs submit and yield to the tongue.)
– Muʿadh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked, “O Messenger of Allah, inform me of a deed that will admit me into Paradise and keep me far from the Fire.” He replied, “You have asked about something tremendous, yet it is easy for whomever Allah makes it easy: worship Allah without associating anything with Him, establish the prayer, pay the zakah, fast during Ramadan, and make pilgrimage to the House if you are able to find a way thereto. Shall I not point you to the gates of goodness? Fasting is a shield; charity extinguishes sin just as water extinguishes fire; and a man’s prayer in the depths of the night…” Then he recited: “Their sides forsake their beds…” (32:16)
