Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

may Allah not bless this car, this house, this bedding, and the like. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade us from making such invocations, for it might coincide with an hour in which prayers are answered; and if that happens, it will be granted. Suppose you say to your child, “Come here—why did you do that? May Allah not grant you success, may He deprive you of profit, may He not set you right,” and it happens to fall in an hour of response—this is all forbidden, unlawful, because it may match a moment when supplications are accepted. The same applies to property: whether it is a car that keeps going wrong, a household task that frustrates you, or anything else, do not invoke against it. Instead, say, “O Allah, make the matter easy; O Allah, facilitate it,” so that ease and facilitation may come.

1498 – Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The closest a servant comes to his Lord is while he is prostrating, so make abundant supplication.” Narrated by Muslim.

As for the ḥadith of Abu Hurayrah, it contains the Prophet’s words: “The closest a servant is to his Lord is while he is prostrating, so increase your supplications.” When a person calls upon Allah the Exalted, he is close to Allah, and Allah is close to him, as the Almighty says: “And when My servants ask you about Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the call of the caller when he calls upon Me.”
