Another of these prayers is the supplication related from David—peace be upon him: “O Allah, I ask You for Your love, the love of those who love You, and the deeds that bring me closer to Your love.” This, too, is an essential supplication. If Allah loves you and you love those whom He loves, you will be counted among His friends; likewise, if you come to love the deeds that Allah loves. For that reason, a person should recite this prayer regularly, because loving Allah is the ultimate aim, as He says: “Say, ‘If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins’” (Q 3:31).

Another of the Prophet’s invocations is: “O Allah, I ask You for steadfast resolve upon right guidance, safety from sin, the full share of every virtue, and I ask You for success in Paradise and deliverance from the Fire.” There are many similar hadiths that the author has cited. We have already advised you to copy them from the book and read them, for memorizing them all at once can be difficult. Yet if a person takes them in hand and learns them little by little, the task becomes easy.
