Al-Ḥākim said: “The chain of transmission for this report is sound.” The verb al-liẓū is pronounced with a short “i” after the lām and with the ẓāʾ doubled; it means: adhere to this supplication and recite it often.
1492 – Abū Umāmah—may Allah be pleased with him—reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered numerous supplications, none of which we managed to memorize. We said, “Messenger of Allah, you have made many supplications and we have not retained any of them.” He replied, “Shall I direct you to words that gather all of them together? Say: ‘O Allah, I ask You for the best of what Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asked of You, and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ sought refuge from. You are the One whose help is sought; to You belongs the conveyance; there is no power and no strength except with Allah.’” Recorded by al-Tirmidhī, who graded it sound (ḥasan).
1493 – Ibn Masʿūd—may Allah be pleased with him—reported that among the supplications of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was: “O Allah, I ask You for the causes that draw Your mercy, for the resolutions that secure Your forgiveness, for safety from every sin, for a share of every act of righteousness, for triumph with Paradise, and for deliverance from the Fire.” Recorded by al-Ḥākim Abū ʿAbd Allah, who said: “A ḥadith sound according to the criteria of Muslim.”
