Chapter: The Merit of Circles of Remembrance, the Recommendation to Adhere to Them, and the Prohibition of Leaving Them without Excuse
Allah the Exalted says, “And keep yourself patient with those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face, and let not your eyes pass beyond them.”
1447 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Allah, Exalted and Majestic, has angels who roam the roads seeking out gatherings of remembrance. When they find a group remembering Allah, they call to one another, ‘Come to what you are looking for!’ and they surround them with their wings, filling the space between them and the lowest heaven.
Then their Lord asks them—though He knows best—‘What are My servants saying?’ They reply, ‘They are glorifying You, magnifying You, praising You, and exalting You.’
He asks, ‘Have they seen Me?’ They say, ‘No, by Allah, they have not seen You.’ He says, ‘What would they do if they saw Me?’ They say, ‘If they saw You, they would worship You more devotedly, exalt You more greatly, and glorify You more abundantly.’
He says, ‘What are they asking of Me?’ They say, ‘They are asking You for Paradise.’ He says, ‘Have they seen it?’ They say, ‘No, by Allah, O Lord, they have not seen it.’ He says, ‘What would they do if they saw it?’ They say, ‘If they saw it, they would be more eager for it, seek it more earnestly, and desire it more intensely.’
He says, ‘From what are they seeking refuge?’ They say, ‘They seek refuge from the Fire.’ He says, ‘Have they seen it?’ They say, ‘No, by Allah, they have not seen it.’ He says, ‘What would they do if they saw it?’ They say, ‘If they saw it, they would flee from it more swiftly and fear it even more.’
He then says, ‘I make you witnesses that I have forgiven them.’
One of the angels comments, ‘Among them is so-and-so; he is not one of them—he only came for some need.’ He says, ‘They are the people; their companion will not be wretched because of them.’”
Agreed upon.
