Chapter: Remembrance of Allah while standing, sitting, reclining, in a state of minor or major ritual impurity, and during menstruation—except for the Qur’an, for it is not permissible for one in major impurity or a menstruating woman to recite it.
Allah the Exalted says: “Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the alternation of night and day are signs for people of insight—those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides” (Āl ʿImrān 3:190-191).
1444 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would remember Allah at all times.” Narrated by Muslim.
1445 – Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) related that the Prophet ﷺ said: “If, when one of you approaches his wife, he says, ‘In the name of Allah. O Allah, keep Satan away from us and keep Satan away from whatever You grant us,’ then, should a child be decreed for them, Satan will never harm him.” Agreed upon.
[Commentary]
Imām al-Nawawī (d. 676 AH) writes in his Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn: “Chapter: Remembrance of Allah while standing, sitting, and reclining,” meaning that a person ought to remember Allah in every condition—standing, sitting, or lying on his side.
