Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

1398 – ʿAbd Allah ibn Masʿūd, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, said, “Those who will be nearest to me on the Day of Resurrection are the ones who have invoked the most blessings upon me.” Related by al-Tirmidhī, who classified it as ḥasan (fair).

1399 – Aws ibn Aws, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, said, “Among the best of your days is Friday, so increase your blessings upon me on that day, for your blessings will be presented to me.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how will our blessings be presented to you when you have decayed?”—for aramta means “your body has decomposed.” He replied, “Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the prophets.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd with a sound chain of transmission.

Explanation
These three hadiths underscore the virtue of invoking blessings upon the Prophet, ﷺ. The meaning of such invocation has already been clarified. The first hadith, narrated by ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, may Allah be pleased with them both, states: “Whoever sends a single blessing upon me, Allah will bless him ten times over.” In practical terms, when you say, “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad,” Allah responds by blessing you ten times, praising you before the Highest Assembly tenfold. This attests both to the excellence of sending blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, and to his lofty station with Allah, for Allah rewards the one who blesses him by multiplying the deed tenfold—Allah Himself blesses that person ten times.
