(Agreed upon.)
1340 – From Abū Umāmah (may Allah be pleased with him): the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever fasts a single day in Allah’s cause, Allah will place between him and the Fire a trench as wide as the distance between heaven and earth.” Recorded by al-Tirmidhī, who said: it is a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ (sound and authentic) hadith.
1341 – From Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever dies without having campaigned in battle, nor even having resolved in his heart to do so, dies upon a branch of hypocrisy.” Recorded by Muslim.
1342 – From Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him): He said, “We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on an expedition, and he said, ‘There are men in Medina who, whenever you traveled a road or crossed a valley, were with you—illness kept them back.’”
In another wording: “An excuse kept them back.”
In another wording: “Yet they shared your reward.”
Recorded by al-Bukhārī through the narration of Anas and by Muslim through the narration of Jābir; the wording here is Muslim’s.
