– On his authority (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, “Territories will be opened up for you and Allah will suffice you; therefore, let none of you be unable to amuse himself with his arrows.” Recorded by Muslim.
– And on his authority (may Allah be pleased with him): the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever has learned archery and then abandons it is not one of us—or, indeed, has disobeyed.” Recorded by Muslim.
– On his authority (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, “Allah admits three people to Paradise because of a single arrow: the one who crafts it, seeking good through his workmanship; the archer who shoots it; and the one who hands it to him. Shoot and ride, yet shooting is dearer to me than riding. Whoever, after learning archery, gives it up out of indifference has neglected a blessing—or, he said, shown ingratitude for it.” Recorded by Abu Dawud.
– From Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him): the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a group competing with arrows and said, “Shoot, O sons of Ishmael, for your forefather was an archer.” Recorded by al-Bukhari.
– From ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, “Whoever launches an arrow in Allah’s cause receives a reward equivalent to freeing a slave.” Recorded by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who both graded it ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ (sound and authentic).
– From Abū Yahyā Khuraym ibn Fātik (may Allah be pleased with him): the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever spends in the path of Allah will have it recorded for him seven-hundredfold.” Recorded by al-Tirmidhi, who graded it ḥasan.
– From Abū Saʿīd (may Allah be pleased with him): the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “No servant fasts a day in Allah’s cause but that, because of that day, Allah distances his face from the Fire by seventy autumns.”
