A lengthy narration containing numerous points of knowledge will, God willing, appear later under the chapter “The Prohibition of Lying.”
1319 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Umm al-Rubayyiʿ bint al-Barāʾ—the mother of Ḥāritha ibn Surāqa—came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Messenger of Allah, tell me about Ḥāritha. He was killed on the Day of Badr. If he is in Paradise, I shall bear the loss with patience; but if it is otherwise, I will devote myself to mourning for him.” He replied, “Mother of Ḥāritha, Paradise contains many gardens, and your son has attained the loftiest Garden of Firdaus.” Related by Bukhari.
1320 – Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: My father was brought to the Prophet ﷺ—he had been mutilated—and laid before him. I wanted to uncover his face, but some people stopped me. The Prophet ﷺ said, “The angels have never ceased shading him with their wings.” Agreed upon.
1321 – Sahl ibn Ḥunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom will be granted the ranks of the martyrs, even if he dies in his bed.” Related by Muslim.
[Commentary]
These narrations highlight the virtue of those who are martyred in the cause of Allah and confirm that Paradise is theirs, as Allah the Exalted says: “Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth in exchange for Paradise. They fight in the way of Allah, so they kill and are killed—a promise binding upon Him in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran…” (Q. 9:111).
