“convey to our Prophet on our behalf that we have met You, that we are pleased with You, and that You are pleased with us.” Agreed upon; this is Muslim’s wording.
1317 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) also reported: My uncle Anas ibn al-Naḍr (may Allah be pleased with him) was absent from the fighting at Badr. He said, “Messenger of Allah, I missed the very first battle in which you fought the idolaters. If Allah allows me to witness a battle against them, He will surely see what I will do.”
When the day of Uḥud arrived and the Muslims retreated, he cried, “O Allah, I seek Your pardon for what these—meaning his fellow Muslims—have done, and I disclaim what those—meaning the idolaters—have done.” He then advanced until Saʿd ibn Muʿādh met him. Anas ibn al-Naḍr said, “O Saʿd ibn Muʿādh, Paradise! By the Lord of al-Naḍr, I can already smell its fragrance coming from beyond Uḥud.” Saʿd later said, “Messenger of Allah, I was unable to do what he did.”
Anas (the narrator) continued: We found on his body more than eighty wounds—strikes of swords, thrusts of spears, and shots of arrows. We found him slain, and the idolaters had mutilated him; no one recognized him except his sister, who identified him by his fingertips. Anas added: We used to think that the following verse was revealed about him and those like him: “Among the believers are men who have been true to the covenant they made with Allah; some of them have fulfilled their vow…” (Q. 33:23) to the end of the verse. Agreed upon, and it has already been cited in the chapter on striving.
1318 – Samura (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Last night I saw two men who came to me; they took me up a tree and entered me into a house more beautiful and superior than any I have ever seen. They said, ‘This house belongs to the martyrs.’” Related by Bukhari; it forms part of a longer narration.
