Chapter: The virtue of giving a fasting person something with which to break the fast, the merit of the fasting person in whose presence others eat, and the supplication of the diner for his host
1265 – Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever provides ifṭār (the meal with which the fast is broken) to a fasting person will receive a reward equal to his, without the fasting person’s reward being reduced in the least.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said: “A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.”
1266 – Umm ʿUmārah al-Anṣāriyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) related that the Prophet ﷺ entered her house, and she offered him food. He said, “Eat.” She replied, “I am fasting.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: “When food is eaten in the presence of a fasting person, the angels invoke blessings upon him until they finish—or, he said, until they are satisfied.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said: “A ḥadīth that is ḥasan.”
1267 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ came to Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah (may Allah be pleased with him). Saʿd brought bread and oil, and the Prophet ﷺ ate. He then said: “May those who are fasting break their fast with you, may the righteous partake of your food, and may the angels pray for you.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd with a sound chain.
