We ask Allah, the Exalted, to help me and you perform these deeds and to make us among those who enter Paradise in peace, for He is able to do all things.
– Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The best fast after Ramadan is the fast observed in Allah’s month, Muharram, and the finest prayer after the prescribed prayers is the night prayer.” Narrated by Muslim.
– Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The night prayer is offered two rakʿahs at a time; when you fear that dawn is approaching, conclude with one rakʿah as witr (the single-unit closing prayer).” Agreed upon.
– Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) also said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray at night two rakʿahs at a time and then end with a single rakʿah.” Agreed upon.
– Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave off fasting for so long that we thought he would not fast at all that month, and he would fast so extensively that we thought he would not omit a single day of it. Likewise, whenever you wished to see him praying at night you would find him praying, and whenever you wished to see him sleeping you would find him sleeping.” Narrated by al-Bukhari.
