No soul can fathom the delights of the eyes that have been concealed for them. They await in the Gardens of Bliss, where there is that which no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard, and which has never occurred to any human heart. When Allah says, “In them are fruit, date-palms, and pomegranates” (Q 55:68), do you imagine that the palms, pomegranates, and fruits are like those of this world? By Allah, they are not. Nothing in Paradise bears any likeness to what exists here except the names. The word “pomegranate” is mentioned, yet what it truly is can never cross your mind; the word “palm-tree” is mentioned, yet its reality will not occur to you; the word “fruit” is mentioned, yet its nature is beyond your imagination: “No soul knows what delights of the eye have been hidden for them as a recompense for what they used to do” (Q 32:17). We ask Allah, exalted is He, to include us and you among those righteous, noble, dutiful servants. He is surely able to do all things.
Allah the Exalted also says, “They used to sleep but little of the night” (Q 51:17).
1160 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Prophet ﷺ would stand in prayer at night until his feet cracked. I said, “O Messenger of Allah, why do you do this when Allah has forgiven you your earlier and later sins?” He replied, “Should I not, then, be a grateful servant?”
