so that you may prosper.

From this it is clear that there is no sermon after the Friday prayer, because Allah says, “When the prayer is finished, disperse throughout the land” (62:10). There is to be no further sermon, speech, or exhortation; the admonitions contained in the two sermons delivered before the prayer are sufficient, for this was the established practice of the Prophet ﷺ. Hence Imām Aḥmad—may Allah have mercy on him—said: “If anyone speaks after the prayer, do not listen to him unless he is conveying a written decree from the ruler, for directives issued by the ruler must be heard by the subjects, since the ruler has a rightful claim over them.”
