Chapter: The desirability of offering supererogatory prayers at home—whether the regular Sunnahs or other voluntary prayers—and the instruction either to shift to a different place for the voluntary prayer after the obligatory one or to separate the two by speaking.
1128 – Zayd ibn Thābit (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Pray, O people, in your homes, for the best prayer a person performs is in his house—except for the obligatory prayer.” Agreed upon.
1129 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Offer some of your prayers in your houses, and do not turn them into graveyards.” Agreed upon.
1230 – Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “When one of you has completed his prayer in the mosque, let him allot a share of his prayer to his house, for Allah will place goodness in his house by virtue of that prayer.” Narrated by Muslim.
[Explanation]
After mentioning the routine Sunnahs that accompany the obligatory prayers, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) clarifies in this chapter that the default is for a person to pray in his own home. To demonstrate this, he cites several hadiths, among them those just mentioned.
