Chapter: The Sunnah Prayers of Dhuhr
– Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said, “I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ two rakʿahs before Dhuhr and two rakʿahs after it.” Agreed upon.
– ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ never failed to offer four rakʿahs before Dhuhr. Reported by al-Bukhari.
– She also said, “The Prophet ﷺ would pray four rakʿahs in my house before Dhuhr, then he would go out and lead the people in prayer; afterward he would return and perform two rakʿahs. He would lead the people in Maghrib, then come into my house and pray two rakʿahs; and he would lead the people in ʿIshaʾ and then enter my house and pray two rakʿahs.” Reported by Muslim.
– Umm Ḥabībah (may Allah be pleased with her) related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever consistently performs four rakʿahs before Dhuhr and four rakʿahs after it, Allah will forbid the Fire to touch him.” Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who graded it ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ (sound and authentic).
– ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Sāʾib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray four rakʿahs after the sun passed its zenith, before Dhuhr, and he said, “It is an hour during which the gates of heaven are opened.”
