Chapter: The recommendation to recline on one’s right side after the two rakʿahs of Fajr and the encouragement to do so, whether or not one has prayed tahajjud during the night.
1110 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Whenever the Prophet ﷺ had completed the two rakʿahs of Fajr, he would lie down on his right side. Reported by al-Bukhārī.
1111 – She also narrated: The Prophet ﷺ used to pray eleven rakʿahs between finishing the ʿIshāʾ prayer and the break of dawn, giving the salutation after every two rakʿahs and concluding with a single rakʿah of Witr. When the caller to prayer fell silent after announcing Fajr, and the break of dawn was evident to him, and the muʾadhdhin (caller to prayer) came to him, he would rise, offer two light rakʿahs, then recline on his right side like that until the muʾadhdhin came to summon for the obligatory prayer. Reported by Muslim. Her words “he would give the salutation between every two rakʿahs” appear exactly so in Muslim and mean: after each pair of rakʿahs.
1112 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When any of you has offered the two rakʿahs of Fajr, let him recline on his right side.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī with sound chains. Al-Tirmidhī said: “A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ (good and authentic).”
