1088 – (The same narrator) also related: “When the iqāmah was pronounced, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—turned to us and said, ‘Straighten your rows and close the gaps, for I can see you from behind my back.’” Al-Bukhārī transmits this wording, while Muslim conveys the same meaning. In another narration recorded by al-Bukhārī, he added: “Each of us would press his shoulder to his neighbor’s shoulder and his foot to his foot.”
