“Is it you who create it, or are We the Creator?” (Q 56:59).
If every creature in existence were to join forces to create even a single limb, they would be incapable. Rather, Allah—exalted is He—said, “O people, an example is set forth, so listen to it: those you invoke besides Allah will never create a fly, even if they all gathered for that purpose” (Q 22:73). Glory be to Allah! All the false objects of worship, in all their diverse forms, could not produce a fly even were they to unite for it.
That is in the realm of creation. As for revelation, Allah, exalted be He, said, “Say: If mankind and the jinn were to band together to produce the like of this Quran, they would never produce its like” (Q 17:88). Thus no one can match Allah’s Speech, just as no one can rival His act of creation.
Were you to ask them, “Who created the heavens and the earth?” they would surely answer, “Allah.” And were you to ask them, “Who created them?” they would surely answer, “Allah” (cf. Q 43:87). Say, “Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth? Who owns hearing and sight? Who brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living? Who directs every affair?” They will reply, “Allah” (Q 10:31). Therefore, the One described by all these attributes alone deserves worship.
Does anything else merit worship—the sun, whose course is managed by Him? “And the sun runs its course to an appointed place; that is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing” (Q 36:38). Does the moon deserve worship? The star? A tree? None of them is worthy.
