Chapter: Exhortation to attend the congregational prayers of Fajr (dawn) and ʿIshāʾ (night)
1071 – ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declare, “Whoever performs the ʿIshāʾ prayer in congregation is granted the reward of worshipping for half the night, and whoever performs the Fajr prayer in congregation is granted the reward of worshipping the entire night.” Related by Muslim.
In another narration recorded by al-Tirmidhī, ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever attends the ʿIshāʾ prayer in congregation receives the reward of half a night’s vigil, and whoever performs both the ʿIshāʾ and Fajr prayers in congregation receives the reward of an entire night’s vigil.” Al-Tirmidhī graded this ḥadīth ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.
1072 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If people knew the blessings contained in the ʿAtamah (the ʿIshāʾ prayer) and Fajr, they would come to them even if they had to crawl.” Agreed upon, and the full report has already passed.
1073 – He also related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “No prayers are heavier upon the hypocrites than the Fajr and ʿIshāʾ prayers; yet if they understood the merit that lies in them, they would come to them even if they had to crawl.”
