namely: (1) one degree is raised for him, and (2) one sin is erased. When he enters the mosque and performs the prayer, the angels keep invoking blessings upon him for as long as he remains in his place, saying, “O Allah, forgive him; O Allah, have mercy on him,” provided he does not invalidate his ablution. He is also regarded as being in prayer for as long as he is waiting for the next prayer. This is a tremendous reward and an immense favor that no intelligent believer should neglect. Imagine being told that you could sell your goods in your own town for one hundred, but by travelling to another town you could sell them for one hundred and ten—you would certainly make the journey for a mere ten-percent increase, and the trip would not burden you in the least.
Yet many people—Allah’s protection is sought—are deprived of such good: you find them living close to the mosque, but they forgo this magnificent bounty and great profit, where one prayer counts as twenty-seven, i.e., many multiples, and still they do not come to the mosque. We ask Allah for well-being.
People pursue the gains of this world—meagre as they are—and attach great importance to them, even though they will inevitably vanish. Every worldly delight will either leave you, or you will leave it; there is no everlasting pleasure, no permanent abode. The bliss of the Hereafter, however, endures forever, yet some people squander it and show no concern for it. Allah grants His favor to whom He wills. We ask Allah to help us remember Him, thank Him, and worship Him in the best possible manner.
