Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

He then cited the ḥadith recorded by al-Tirmidhī: “Give glad tidings to those who walk to the mosques in the darkness that they will have perfect light on the Day of Resurrection.” This report is weak, yet there is no doubt that whoever sets out for the mosque in the dark receives a recompense that matches his effort: just as he braved the darkness to reach the mosque, light will be written for him on the Day of Judgment.

Even weaker than this is the ḥadith that follows: “When you see a man habitually frequenting the mosque, testify to his faith, for Allah says: ‘The mosques of Allah are only maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish the prayer, give the zakāt, and fear none but Allah.’” This too is a weak report that cannot be soundly traced back to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Nonetheless, the clear and authentic narrations already mentioned are sufficient to demonstrate the virtue of walking to the mosques. We ask Allah to grant us and you sincerity in our deeds and success in that which pleases Him, Glorified and Exalted.
