On the authority of ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: The Prophet ﷺ declared, “There is no emigration after the Conquest, but there remains striving and intention; and when you are summoned to mobilize, then set out.” Agreed upon.
Its meaning is: There is no emigration from Mecca, for it has become a land of Islam.
Explanation
In this ḥadith the Messenger of Allah ﷺ negates emigration after the Conquest when he said, “No emigration.” This negation, however, is not absolute; emigration did not cease with the Conquest, for the Prophet ﷺ also said, “Emigration will not end until repentance ends, and repentance will not end until the sun rises from the west.” The negation here is specific to emigration from Mecca, as the author has pointed out, because once Mecca was conquered it became a land of Islam and will never again revert to a land of disbelief. For that reason the Prophet ﷺ denied that there would be any further emigration after the Conquest.
Mecca had been under the control of the idolaters, who expelled the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from it. By his Lord’s permission he emigrated to Medina, and eight years later he returned to Mecca as a conqueror—victorious and aided by Allah. Thus Mecca, which had been a land of disbelief vis-à-vis the Prophet ﷺ, became a land of faith and Islam, and from that point onward no emigration remained from it.
