1039 – Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever, when he hears the call to prayer, says, ‘Allahumma rabba hadhihi al-da‘wati al-tamma wa-l-salati al-qa’imah, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wa-l-fadilah, wab‘ath-hu maqaman mahmudan alladhi wa‘adtahu’ (O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and of the prayer that is about to be established, grant Muhammad the privilege of intercession and superiority, and raise him to the praiseworthy station You have promised him), my intercession will be permitted for him on the Day of Resurrection.” Recorded by al-Bukhari.
1040 – Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever, upon hearing the mu’adhin, says, ‘Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah, wa anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh; radiytu billahi rabban, wa bi-Muhammadin rasulan, wa bil-islami dinan’ (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger; I am content with Allah as Lord, with Muhammad as Messenger, and with Islam as religion), his sin will be forgiven.” Recorded by Muslim.
1041 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The supplication made between the adhan and the iqamah is not turned back.” Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who graded it hasan (sound).
[Explanation]
These narrations complete the chapter on the virtue of the adhan that Imam al-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, included in Riyad al-Salihin. Among them are the Prophet’s instruction, “When you hear the call, say what the mu’adhin says,” and his saying, “Whoever, when he hears the call, says, ‘Allahumma rabba hadhihi al-da‘wati al-tamma…’”
