Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah, make me among those who constantly repent, and make me among those who purify themselves.
“And that He may perfect His favor upon you.” That favor is this very ablution, through which sins are wiped away and ranks are raised. Whoever performs ablution, perfects it, and then says, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah, make me among the repentant and make me among the purified,” will have the eight gates of Paradise flung open for him, and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes.
As for His words, “so that you may give thanks,” they mean: in order that you show gratitude to Allah for His blessings. A person is therefore obliged to thank Allah for His countless favors—above all, the religious favors, for in them lie the happiness of this world and the next.
Gratitude is to obey Allah by carrying out His commands and avoiding His prohibitions with one’s tongue, limbs, and heart. We ask Allah to grant us—and you—gratitude for His blessings and excellence in worship. Truly, He has power over all things.
1024 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, “My community will be summoned on the Day of Resurrection with radiant faces and shining limbs from the traces of ablution. So whoever of you can extend his radiance, let him do so.” Agreed upon.
