Chapter: The Recommendation to Set Out on Thursday and at the Start of the Day
956 – Kaʿb ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for the Tabuk expedition on a Thursday, and he liked to begin his journeys on a Thursday. Agreed upon. In another wording recorded by the two Ṣaḥīḥs: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would not set out except on a Thursday.”
957 – Ṣakhr ibn Wadāʿah al-Ghāmidī (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O Allah, bless my community in its early mornings.” Whenever he dispatched a detachment or an army, he would send them out at the beginning of the day. Ṣakhr was a merchant, and he used to send off his trading caravans early in the morning, so he prospered and his wealth grew in abundance. Reported by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who classified it as ḥasan (sound).
