his brains—may Allah protect us.
A man once came to him and said, “Messenger of Allah, where is my father?” He replied, “Your father is in the Fire.”
He also told us that ʿAmr ibn Luhayy al-Khuzāʿī is dragging his entrails through the Fire.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: “Likewise, anyone whom the Muslim community has unanimously praised, we testify that he is in Paradise. For example, Imām Aḥmad—may Allah have mercy on him—al-Shāfiʿī, Abū Ḥanīfah, Mālik, Sufyān al-Thawrī, Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, and other leading scholars: the ummah has unanimously spoken well of them, so we affirm that they are among the people of Paradise. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah—may Allah have mercy on him—has likewise been praised by all save those who have deviated, and whoever deviates has deviated into the Fire; accordingly, he too is testified to be in Paradise.”
This view is reinforced by the ḥadīth of ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with him—reported by al-Bukhārī, in which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “If four men testify in a person’s favor—indeed, even three or two—” and they did not ask him about the testimony of only one.
We ask Allah, exalted is He, to make us and you among those for whom the Fire has been forbidden.
