and grant him something better than it.’ Allah, Exalted is He, will reward him for his affliction and will give him something better in exchange.” She (Umm Salama) added, “When Abū Salama passed away I said the words the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had taught me, and Allah indeed gave me someone better than him: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself.” Reported by Muslim.

922 – Abū Mūsā (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When the child of a servant dies, Allah Most High says to the angels, ‘Have you taken the child of My servant?’ They reply, ‘Yes.’ He says, ‘Have you taken the apple of his heart?’ They reply, ‘Yes.’ He then asks, ‘And what did My servant say?’ They answer, ‘He praised You and declared: “Indeed we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return.”’ Allah says, ‘Build for My servant a house in Paradise and name it the House of Praise.’” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who graded it ḥasan (sound).

923 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah Most High says, ‘My believing servant has no reward with Me, if I take from him the one he loves most in this world and he remains patient, seeking reward, except Paradise.’” Reported by al-Bukhārī.

924 – Usāmah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported: One of the Prophet’s ﷺ daughters sent word to him, summoning him and informing him that a child of hers—either her son or his grandchild—was at the point of death. He said to the messenger, “Go back to her and tell her: ‘To Allah belongs what He takes and to Him belongs what He gives, and everything with Him is according to a fixed term. So let her be patient and seek reward.’” (He then related the remainder of the story.)
