been stoned, the child in her womb—who bore no guilt—would have died as well. For this reason the Prophet ﷺ ordered that she wait until she had given birth and then nursed the infant.
The report also indicates that, in the case of stoning, no pit is to be dug for a woman; instead, her clothes are tied securely around her and stones—neither very small nor excessively large—are thrown at her until she dies. The punishment is carried out in this manner because the illicit desire involved the whole body, so it is fitting that the entire body taste the pain of the penalty—such is the wisdom of Allah.
It further proves that once a ḥadd has been executed, the offender is cleared, delivered, and purified from the sin. Accordingly, the Prophet ﷺ performed the funeral prayer for her, and the people prayed as well.
