The man then woke up and asked, “What has brought me into the Shaykh’s presence?” They replied, “Subḥān-Allāh! Did you not feel the severe blows he was striking you with?” He said, “I did not feel the blows, nor did I feel anything at all.” There are many similar incidents.
This type of seizure has two kinds of treatment: one that prevents it and one that removes it after it occurs.
-
Prevention: A person must be diligent in reciting the prescribed morning and evening litanies recorded in the works of the scholars. Among them is the Throne Verse (Āyat al-Kursī); whoever recites it at night will remain under Allah’s protection and no devil will approach him until morning. Also included are Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, al-Falaq, and al-Nās, as well as several hadiths transmitted from the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him. Let a person hold fast to these formulas every morning and evening, for they are among the means of warding off the harm of the jinn.
-
Removal: If the affliction has already occurred, Qur’anic verses that instill fear, warning, admonition, and seeking refuge in Allah are recited over the afflicted person until the jinni departs.
The takeaway from the aforementioned hadith is the Prophet’s—peace and blessings be upon him—words to that woman: “If you wish, be patient and Paradise will be yours,” and she replied, “I shall be patient.” This demonstrates the merit of patience and that it is a means to enter Paradise. Allah is the One who grants success.

His people struck him until they caused him to bleed, and he wiped the blood from his face while saying, “O Allah, forgive…"
