and she would sprinkle a few grains of barley on top. Then, whenever the Companions came out, any of them who wished would stop by, greet her with salam, eat some of that salq, and rejoice in it. This was because the Companions—may Allah be pleased with them—were not well-to-do until Allah granted them victory, as He says, “and many spoils of war that they will capture” and, “Allah has promised you many spoils of war that you will capture.” After the conquests wealth became plentiful, whereas before that most of the Companions were poor.
