Chapter: The recommendation to repeat the salām when one meets the same person again after only a short interval—such as entering and then immediately leaving, or when a tree or the like passes between them.
859 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, in the account of the man who prayed poorly, that the man came, performed the prayer, then approached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and offered the salām. The Prophet returned the greeting and said, “Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.” So the man went back and prayed, then came and greeted the Prophet again—until he had done so three times. Agreed upon.
860 – The same Companion reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “When any of you meets his brother, let him greet him with salām; and if a tree, a wall, or a stone comes between them and he meets him again, let him greet him with salām once more.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd.
