Narrated by Muslim.
855 – Asmāʾ bint Yazīd (may Allah be pleased with her) related: “One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed through the mosque while a group of women were sitting there, and he signaled with his hand to greet them with salām.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who declared it ḥasan. The report is understood to mean that the Prophet ﷺ combined a verbal greeting with the hand gesture, a reading supported by Abū Dāwūd’s wording: “and he offered salām to us.”
856 – Abū Umāmah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “The people nearest to Allah are those who initiate the greeting of salām.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd with a sound chain and by al-Tirmidhī in similar form, who graded it ḥasan and mentioned it immediately thereafter.
