I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You, so that it may atone for what has occurred in the gathering.
As for the other report from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them) stating that the Prophet ﷺ would seldom rise from a sitting before supplicating with these words—“O Allah, allot for us …,” and so on—the full text will, God willing, be discussed later. What matters here is to note that the Messenger ﷺ recited it on most occasions. Yet was that in every single gathering, even assemblies devoted to exhortation and remembrance? This requires examination. Ibn ʿUmar did not attend every meeting of the Prophet ﷺ; inevitably some sittings escaped him. Hence, if a person utters this remembrance during a gathering, at its beginning, or at its end, he has fulfilled the Sunnah the Prophet ﷺ practiced.
834 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would rarely leave a sitting without making the following supplications:
“O Allah, apportion for us a share of reverent fear of You that will serve as a barrier between us and disobeying You; a share of obedience to You that will convey us to Your Paradise; and a share of certitude that will make the disasters of this world easy for us to bear. O Allah, let us enjoy our hearing, our sight, and our strength as long as You grant us life, and make them the last of us to deteriorate. Make our retribution fall upon those who wrong us; grant us victory over those who show enmity toward us; and do not make our calamity in…”
