is the one whom the people wait for. Thus, if the imam reclines in his house after the two Sunnah rakʿahs of Fajr, this is in keeping with the Sunnah—so long as he habitually strives in night worship. As for someone who does not rise until late or wakes only with the call to Fajr, he has no need to recline after the Sunnah of Fajr.
818 – Yaʿīsh ibn Ṭukhfah al-Ghifārī—may Allah be pleased with him—said: My father told me, “While I was lying in the mosque on my stomach, a man began nudging me with his foot and said, ‘This is a way of lying down that Allah detests.’ I looked up, and it was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” Reported by Abū Dāwūd with a sound chain.
819 – Abū Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever sits in a place without mentioning Allah will incur a loss from Allah, and whoever lies down in a place without mentioning Allah will likewise incur a loss from Allah.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd with a fair chain. The word tira (with a kasrah on the initial tāʾ) means “deficiency,” and it is also said to mean “a liability.”
