Chapter: The recommendation to avoid self-aggrandizement in dress as an act of humility

802 – Muʿādh ibn Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever refrains from wearing fine clothing out of humility for Allah, though he is able to do so, Allah will summon him on the Day of Resurrection before all creation and allow him to choose whichever robes of faith he wishes to wear.”

Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said: this is a ḥasan (fair) hadith.
