“Your Prophet has instructed you in everything—even in how to relieve yourselves!” By this he meant the manner of sitting to urinate or defecate. Salmān answered, “Indeed he has. He taught us not to face the qiblah when answering the call of nature, not to cleanse ourselves with the right hand, not to use fewer than three stones for cleansing, and not to use dung or bones.”
The point is that our sacred law—praise be to Allah—is perfect in every respect. It suffers no deficiency and requires no one to complete it. This passage also rebuts those simple-minded people who claim that the Islamic sharia concerns itself only with acts of worship between the servant and his Lord, while neglecting the dealings that take place among human beings. To such people we say: shame on you and on your feeble reasoning! The longest verse in Allah’s Mighty Book is devoted entirely to debt contracts and financial transactions between people—could there be a clearer indication of concern? And how many other verses in the Noble Quran regulate wealth, safeguard it, and the like! The Sunnah does the same. Thus, the Islamic sharia, praise be to Allah, is complete from every angle.
