Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

had forbidden drinking while standing. Nonetheless, when necessity demands it there is no objection, as was the case here: the water-skin was hanging up high, out of reach for a seated person, and no cup was available, so the Prophet ﷺ drank from that suspended water-skin while standing.

The report also proves the permissibility of seeking blessing through the Prophet’s physical traces, and this is firmly established. The Companions sought blessing from his perspiration, his saliva, his clothing, and his hair. For anyone other than the Prophet ﷺ, however, none of this is allowable: it is impermissible to seek blessing from a person’s clothes, hair, fingernails, or any other belongings—this privilege belongs exclusively to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
