and the Duha prayer is a confirmed Sunnah. Its time begins once the sun has risen about a spear’s length—roughly fifteen minutes after sunrise—and continues until just before the zenith, that is, until about ten minutes remain before the noon (Dhuhr) prayer. All of this period is valid for performing it. A person should be keen to observe it, for it takes the place of the charities owed by every limb of the body each morning. The Prophet ﷺ informed us that every day the sun rises, a charity is due on each of a person’s joints. In other words, every limb of yours requires a daily charity. That charity is not confined to money alone: saying subḥānallāh (tasbīḥ) is charity, saying allāhu akbar (takbīr) is charity, saying lā ilāha illā Allāh (tahlīl) is charity, reciting the Quran is charity, enjoining what is right is charity, forbidding what is wrong is charity, helping a man with his belongings is charity, a kind word is charity, and a man’s marital intimacy is charity. Everything by which a servant draws nearer to Allah counts as charity, and two rakʿahs prayed at Duha suffice for all of that. This shows that the Duha prayer is recommended every single day. It also indicates that one should not eat while reclining; rather, he should eat in an alert posture—sitting on his knees—so that he does not overeat.
