Likewise, when one wishes to use the siwak (tooth-stick), he should begin with the right side of the mouth before the left. The same rule applies to applying kohl: start with the right eye before the left.
When trimming the nails, begin with the right hand before the left. On the right hand proceed from the little finger, to the ring finger, the middle finger, the index finger, and finish with the thumb. On the left hand reverse the order: start with the thumb, then the index, the middle, the ring, and conclude with the little finger. Trim the nails of the right foot before those of the left.
Clip the mustache from the right side first, and follow the same order when plucking the armpits or shaving the head. Plucking the armpit hair is a Sunnah; therefore, if you intend to remove it, begin with the right armpit before the left. When shaving the head, likewise start with the right side before the left.
The same precedence is observed when concluding the prayer: a person turns his head to the right for the first salutation before turning to the left. Eating and drinking follow the same principle—eat with the right hand and drink with the right hand. It is not permissible to eat or drink with the left hand, for the Prophet ﷺ forbade that.
