Likewise, when you are standing beneath a faucet with the water running over your head and you wish to perform a full bath, then after you have washed the head and saturated it, begin with the right side of the body before the left—this is the Sunnah.
The same principle applies to tayammum, albeit in a slightly different manner. The Prophetic guidance is that one strikes the earth, wipes the face with both hands together, and then rubs one hand over the other. Because tayammum involves only two parts—the face and the hands—there is no visible precedence of the right over the left: the face is wiped once, and the hands are rubbed against each other.
Putting on garments follows the same rule. Whether a robe, a sandal, a khuff (leather sock), or sarawil (trousers), one begins with the right. If you are donning a robe, insert the right arm into its sleeve before the left. For trousers, put the right leg into its pant-leg before the left. When slipping on footwear, start with the right foot and place it in the sandal before the left, and do the same with khuffs or socks.
This, too, was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ. In the same way, when entering a mosque, you should deliberately step in with the right foot first. As you approach the entrance, be mindful so that your right foot is the one that enters ahead of the left.
