Chapter: The recommendation to set out for the Eid prayer, to visit the sick, to perform Hajj, to take part in a military expedition, to accompany a funeral, and the like by one route and to return by a different route, thereby multiplying the places where worship is performed.
719 – Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was present on the day of Eid, he would take a different route.” Reported by al-Bukhari. His statement “took a different route” means that he went out by one path and came back by another.
720 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to leave Madinah by the route of al-Shajarah and return by the route of al-Muʿarras. When he entered Mecca he would enter through the upper mountain pass (al-Thaniyah al-ʿUlyā) and exit through the lower pass (al-Thaniyah al-Suflā). Agreed upon.
[Explanation]
Thereafter al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) included: “Chapter on the recommendation of taking a different route on Eid, Friday, and other acts of worship.”
