Chapter: Bidding Farewell to a Companion, Advising Him When Parting for Travel or Otherwise, Supplicating for Him, and Requesting His Prayers in Return
Allah the Exalted says: “And Abraham enjoined this upon his sons, and so did Jacob, saying, ‘My sons, Allah has chosen the religion for you; so do not die except in a state of submission to Him.’ Or were you present when death came to Jacob? He said to his sons, ‘What will you worship after I am gone?’ They replied, ‘We will worship your God and the God of your fathers—Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac—one God, and to Him we submit.’”
As for the prophetic traditions:
712 – Among them is the hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), already cited in the chapter on honoring the Household of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He related: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us to deliver a sermon. He praised and extolled Allah, exhorted us, and offered reminders. Then he said, ‘To proceed: O people, I am only a human being. Soon the messenger of my Lord will come to me, and I will respond to him. I am leaving among you two weighty trusts: the first is the Book of Allah, in which are guidance and light. Hold fast to the Book of Allah and cling to it.’ He thus urged us to adhere to the Book of Allah and encouraged devotion to it. Then he said, ‘And my household—I remind you by Allah concerning my household, I remind you by Allah concerning my household.’”
This narration is recorded by Muslim, and its full wording has already been mentioned earlier.
