Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

706 – Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest; whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should maintain the ties of kinship; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good words or remain silent.” Agreed upon.

707 – Abu Shurayh Khuwaylid ibn ʿAmr al-Khuzāʿī reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest by giving him his due.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is his due?” He replied, “One day and one night; full hospitality lasts for three days, and whatever is beyond that is charity.” Agreed upon.
In another version recorded by Muslim: “It is not lawful for a Muslim to stay with his brother until he burdens him with sin.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how does he burden him with sin?” He said, “He stays with him when the host has nothing with which to entertain him.”
