For this reason someone said:
If my gratitude for Allah’s favor is itself a favor
whose very like makes gratitude due,
how, then, can I ever attain true thanks except by His grace,
no matter how long the days or how extended the span of life?
He spoke the truth, for when Allah enables you to give thanks, that in itself is a blessing that calls for fresh gratitude. Should you give thanks, that becomes another blessing in need of a second act of gratitude; should you thank Him again, that becomes a third blessing requiring a third act of gratitude—and so on without end.
Yet in reality we are heedless of this. We ask Allah to awaken our hearts and yours, and to set right our deeds and yours; He is indeed Most Generous, Most Bountiful.
28- Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—grew gravely ill, he would lapse into unconsciousness. Fāṭimah (may Allah be pleased with her) cried out, “Oh, the anguish of my father!” He replied, “There will be no anguish for your father after today.” When he passed away she said, “O my father, your Lord has answered the summons; O my father, the Garden of Firdaws is your abode; O my father, we announce your loss to Gabriel.” Then she said, “O Anas, how could your hearts bear to scatter dust upon the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him?” (Reported by al-Bukhari).
