the wrongdoing people.
In sum, Allah says: “And debate with them in the manner that is best.” From this verse it is understood that whoever cannot debate in the best manner should not engage in debate at all. A person may be a true believer, harbouring no doubts because of the strength of his faith, yet a most obstinate opponent confronts him and he is unable to hold his ground. In such a case, do not debate; for if you do, you will not be debating in the manner that is best. Leave the matter for another occasion, or until someone more capable than you comes and argues with him.
700 – Abū al-Yaqẓān ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “The length of a man’s prayer and the brevity of his sermon are a sign (mi’nah) of his understanding. So lengthen the prayer and shorten the sermon.” Narrated by Muslim. Mi’nah—with an open mīm, a kasra under the hamza, and a doubled nūn—means “a mark indicating his understanding.”
701 – Muʿāwiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulamī (may Allah be pleased with him) said: While I was praying with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man in the congregation sneezed, so I said, “May Allah have mercy on you.”
