Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn - Ibn al-'Uthaymin - (4/60)

Chapter: The recommendation to speak pleasantly and to meet others with a cheerful face

Allah, the Exalted, says: “And lower your wing to the believers,” and He says: “Had you been harsh and hard-hearted, they would have dispersed from around you.”

ʿAdiyy ibn Ḥātim (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Protect yourselves from the Fire, even if only with half a date; and if you cannot find that, then with a kind word.” Agreed upon.
Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Prophet ﷺ said, “A kind word is charity.” Agreed upon. This is part of a longer hadith cited previously.
Abū Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remarked, “Do not belittle any act of goodness, even if it is meeting your brother with a smiling face.” Narrated by Muslim.

باب استحباب طيب الكلام وطلاقة الوجه عند اللقاء قال الله تعالى: ﴿وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴾ وقال تعالى: ﴿ولو كُنتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ الْقَلْبِ لاَنْفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِكَ﴾ ٦٩٣ - عن عدي بن حاتم ﵁ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: اتقوا النار ولو بشق تمرة فمن لم يجد فبكلمة طيبة متفق عليه ٦٩٤ - وعن أبي هريرة ﵁ أن النبي ﷺ قال: والكلمة الطيبة صدقة متفق عليه وهو بعض حديث تقدم بطوله ٦٩٥ - وعن أبي ذر ﵁ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: لا تحقرن من المعروف شيئا ولو أن تلقى أخالك بوجه طلق رواه مسلم
